AnnouncementsScoutManage 5.0Saturday, 19 April 2008ScoutManage would like to announce our latest in a long history of major enhancements to our service. ScoutManage 5.0 provides additional long-requested features, performance improvements, and usability improvements. Among the most requested new features is File Space. Each ScoutManage account now comes standard with 5MB of storage space that can be used for pictures and documents to share with members of your unit. Files may be attached to calendar entries, and pictures of scouts can be added to each scout's home page. In the future, we'll be providing options for additional storage capacity, along with additional features making use of shared files. Another highly requested feature is Scout Accounts. Scout accounts allow you to setup individual "bank accounts" for each scout and/or leader. Many units use scout accounts to allocate fund raising dollars among those who contributed the most, allowing scouts to apply money they raised towards event fees and dues owed throughout the year. A complete history of money added to and used from each scout account is maintained, along with reports summarizing funds available. Many smaller improvements are also included, such as the much asked for improved date entry, scout ID tracking, daily recurring calendar events, finer granularity for fee assignment, leadership position history reports, and more. Our most exciting new feature is support for the OpenId single sign-on standard. With OpenId, you can create a single user sign-on at one of many different OpenId providers, and use that login on many different websites. With OpenId, you can login to ScoutManage using your AOL screen name, WordPress blog login, Flickr ID, SmugMug, etc. The number of sites supporting OpenId is growing daily. With OpenId and VeriSign's Personal Identity service, you can setup two-factor login authentication easily and cheaply. Two-factor authentication makes use of a hardware device to ensure that your login and password can not be stolen and misused. Already have a PayPal keychain token? Use it with ScoutManage as well and keep your account safe and secure. But the biggest improvement to ScoutManage is under the covers. We've dramatically improved our database management. This has increased ScoutManage performance and reliability. Additionally, it has given us improved scaling that we need to support the high growth rate we are currently experiencing. New Color SchemeMonday, 31 December 2007By popular demand, we have updated our color scheme. The improved color scheme includes more vibrant, active colors and easier to read menus. Unlike the previous color scheme, this scheme should look good on most monitors and browser combinations. The previous color scheme had a greenish/yellowish tinge that didn't look good on some monitor/browser pairs. Scout Data ImportTuesday, 14 August 2007ScoutManage is proud to announce the creation of a new utility to make migrating data from other applications to ScoutManage easy and painless. Now, you can import information from any of the following applications:
In addition, if you are using another tool to manage your Scout data (such as an Excel spreadsheet) you can import that information to ScoutManage as well using our CSV/TSV import mechanism. With this new system, customers can enter support questions online or via e-mail, then track the status of their request from their account on the support website.
